Room for Engagement: A Successful Microproject

From May 11 to 15, six dedicated volunteers put in a tremendous amount of effort to improve the rooms at the mosque of the Islamic Cultural Association of Chemnitz e.V. The initiative was the heart of the microproject Room for Engagement: Strengthening Volunteering Through Better Conditions, which was funded by the German Foundation for Engagement and Volunteering. And the project name couldn’t have been chosen better, as the community and classroom spaces now shine in new splendor, giving the entire floor an inviting appearance.

To achieve this, the volunteers worked several hours each day. They repainted the rooms, replaced old whiteboards, and installed roller blinds on the windows. Using brushes, drills, and craftsmanship, the appearance of the rooms was significantly improved. The fresh paint and new whiteboards make the rooms look brighter and more modern, while the roller blinds create pleasant lighting conditions and prevent the rooms from overheating during the summer. In short: The conditions for the volunteers – and of course for everyone else who uses the services – were greatly improved.
At the end of the project, a small inauguration ceremony was held with the volunteers – a successful conclusion to a successful project. The implementation of the microproject shows how much can be achieved through voluntary engagement. A heartfelt thank you to all those involved! Together, we create spaces where everyone can feel at home.
