„Jetzt bin ich dran!“

Germany is a country of immigration. Not least due to the Ukraine war, the number of people who have to build a new life in Germany is increasing. The conditions for participation in social life differ significantly between the sexes, as a brief analysis by the BAMF from 2021 shows. Women not only have a lower average level of education, are significantly less likely to be employed and have less pronounced language skills. They are also often responsible for childcare and household tasks. Refugee mothers in particular are therefore often „left behind“. In order to be able to support them in the long term and sustainably, we have designed Jetzt bin ich dran!

We are very happy that we were able to convince the Robert Bosch Stiftung of our concept and that we are one of five funded projects within the program „Geflüchtete Mütter stärken!” (Strengthening refugee mothers!). Together with our cooperation partner KITA Regenbogenland, we will contribute to strengthening the autonomy and participation of refugee mothers at our location in Erfurt and at the KITA for one year starting in April 2023.

The aim is to show the participants individual possibilities and ways of reconciling family, work and leisure. We support the refugees in their special and often challenging life situation through workshops, discussions and counselling in protected spaces. It is especially important to us to develop all activities together with the mothers. Only by doing so we can really take their interests and realities of life into account in a targeted way. Child care is also organised, which often makes it possible for the women to participate in the first place. A regular „women’s meeting“ is also part of the project and opens it up to the outside world, thus enabling a variety of contacts. In the future, the mothers will also be recruited as project implementers.
