Information evening on the subject of emergency pastoral care in Dresden

How does an emergency chaplain handle even the difficult situations, in which she has to be there for others? What training steps do I go through on my way to becoming an emergency chaplain? How can I combine volunteer work as a pastor with my own job?

Christian Mendt answered these and other questions at an information event on the subject of emergency pastoral care, which was aimed at interested people from the Islamic communities in Dresden participating in the project „Islamic Welfare Work“. Fifteen people came to the premises of the Turkish-Islamic Community in Dresden on June 11, 2020 and followed the informative and impressive presentation of the police and emergency pastor. Apart from the basic task of being there for relatives, survivors, victims, and for helpers of emergencies in the acute crisis, Mr. Mendt also explained the theoretical background of emergency pastoral care as well as the training steps, which are necessary for the voluntary work as an emergency pastor. His own experience reports illustrated the importance of this task – and especially the challenges it brings with it.
