Migrant:innen in the GDR
Stations of the traveling exhibition

Since the festive opening of the traveling exhibition in February 2023, it has passed through many stations in Thuringia, in addition to SAE Schaltanlagenbau Erfurt GmbH.

It was a guest at the Kreativtankstelle in Erfurt as well as at the Volkshochschule „Karl Mundt“ in Suhl. At the University of Applied Sciences in Erfurt, she was integrated into the academic work of the social science faculty and provided an occasion for lively discussion in a seminar among the students.

Afterwards, it was packed again with the active support of the exhibition pilots and brought to Meiningen to the welcome and meeting place „Cabrini“. It offers refugees and migrants an initial orientation and serves as a meeting place for intercultural exchange and mutual acquaintance. Consequently, there was also an exchange about the exhibition.

After traveling 150 kilometers on the road, the traveling exhibition was on display in Nordhausen for six weeks in July. There it was first shown directly in the pedestrian zone in front of the world store of the schrankenlos e.V.. In the world store can be acquired apart from fairly traded things, like coffee or tea, also books or chocolate. Also the schrankenlos e. V. offers social consultation for Migrant:innen, political education work and Workshops. Afterwards, the exhibition continued in Nordhausen and was made accessible to interested people during the open church.

After six weeks that flew by, the exhibition moved on to the Historisch-Technische-Museum Sömmerda. There it will be on display in September 2023 as part of the ceremonial opening of the museum’s own exhibition „Szeretettel köszöntjük? Hungarian contract workers in Sömmerda“ will be on display.

We are very pleased that the traveling exhibition has been so enthusiastically received and made accessible to so many people, and that exhibition dates have already been firmly agreed for 2024.
