Zukunftslots*innen:
Project completion

At the end of 2022, our project „Zukunftslots*innen“, which was implemented for one year at five of our locations, officially came to an end. The “Zukunftslots*innen” (future guides) are our volunteers who support those seeking help on their way to a better future. They provide guidance and assistance on issues concerning their future, whether it’s writing letters of motivation and resumes, advising on the search for (secondary) schools, apprenticeships or courses of study, or compiling documents.

The eponymous project served to expand this offer. At the beginning of the year, we procured the necessary technical equipment: each location received five laptops including the most important Office programs. Three of these laptops served as stationary devices to assist with a wide variety of tasks. To support those who do not have access to needed technology, the remaining two were made available for free loan.

To teach the proper use of the laptop and the most important programs, a five-language guidebook was created and handed out at the time of loan. It is now also available for download free of charge via this link.

The counseling services of our Zukunftslots*innen were strengthened by a fee-based consultation hour. Workshops on topics such as discrimination and communication served to raise the awareness of the Mentees. At the end of the year, joint excursions were organized as thank-you events for the volunteers, without whom our work would not be possible.

Despite the official end of the project, the Zukunftslots*innen did not stop, of course. Volunteer-led computer courses formed in Dresden and Erfurt and will continue this year. Leipzig is working on expanding its „Wir helfen!“ („We help!“) program and is using the technology it procured for services such as the thematically related „Terminlots*innen“ („Appointment Guides“), a group of multilingual volunteers who help people seeking assistance with visits to authorities and doctors. In addition to three laptops, Kiel has purchased two tablet convertibles, which are used in the wide range of tutoring services. In Schwerin, the stationary devices are used by the office staff to coordinate the local projects.

All in all, we have achieved what was planned in advance: to support our volunteers in their many functions and to expand our help services! At this point, a big thank you to the Deutsche Sitftung für Engagement und Ehrenamt, without whose support this project would not have been possible.
